Abstract
The aim of this work was to evaluate the yield potential and the fry quality of Chilean potato clones, aiming to identify superior clones to become new cultivars. The experiment was conducted in Canoinhas, SC, Brazil, in spring of 2018. A set of 41 advanced potato clones belonging to the Agricultural Research Institute of Chile (INIA) was compared to the most important cultivars in the country for processing french fries, ‘Asterix’, and for processing chips, ‘Atlantic’. A randomized complete block design with tree replications was used. Tuber yield and fry quality traits were evaluated. It was verified some superior clones for marketable yield and others for frying quality, but none for both sets of traits. Clones with better performance for french fries were CH 38, CH 19, and CH 27, which were superior or similar to ‘Asterix’ for most of evaluated traits. Only the performance of the clone CH 41 for chipping similar to ‘Atlantic’.
